About

Towards the end of my aerospace career (Lockheed Skunkworks, Northrop, Rockwell), I found myself responsible (in part) for the development of a man-in-the-loop flight simulator. This project was in support of Rockwell’s F-5 Fighter Upgrade program and my team was responsible for prototyping the upgraded avionics and cockpit. The simulator was meant to allow pilots to provide feedback on the displays and how they functioned but also provided a bit of flashy marketing for the program itself. (We even implemented a “General Mode” that would ensure high-level visitors who tried the simulator would not embarrass themselves by flying into a mountain.)

While at Rockwell, we leveraged software from Virtual Prototypes and Gemini Technology. I went on to work for both of these companies and then go on to work for Sense8 and 3DLabs. These experiences dropped my right in the middle of the 1990’s VR scene. This site is meant to recollect some of those memories.

“VR Ninety ” is meant to be a simplification of “VR of the Nineties”, the first large scale VR era.
